The quality of the 2nd bond is determined by its shape and strength. The capillary parameters that affect the 2nd bond are the Tip diameter, FA and the OR, all of which form the Effective Face.

The Effective Face is the resulting area between where the Face meets the OR and where the Face meets the IC. In fine applications, where the Tip surface is relatively small, the Effective Face creating the 2nd bond is reduced.

In these cases, the design of the OR and the FA will require special modification.
